INTERNASIONAL, Tuahkarya.com- Indonesia’s para swimming squad delivered a breakthrough performance at the Asian Youth Para Games 2025, collecting 26 medals, far exceeding the initial target of just four golds, eight silvers, and ten bronzes. Their success played a pivotal role in propelling Indonesia to sixth place overall with 59 medals across all sports by the end of last week.
Head coach Agni Herarta Anindya Satria admitted the results came as a surprise. “We didn’t set high expectations at the start, but the athletes showed remarkable progress and translated their training into outstanding competition results,” he said in a written statement on Wednesday, December 17, 2025, as quoted by Antara.
Among the brightest stars was Abdil Majid Rahman, who competed in six events and secured four golds and two silvers. His achievements matched those of teammate Siti Aisyah, who also contributed four gold medals. Additional golds came from Iput Etri Hafana of Central Java and I Komang Aditya Pradnyana of Bali.
Abdil’s performance in the men’s 100-meter breaststroke S7 was particularly notable, clocking 1 minute 21 seconds, a time that meets the qualification standard for the World Para Swimming Championships. “We are optimistic about their future because these athletes are still very young,” Agni added.
While Indonesia celebrated its breakthrough, Uzbekistan dominated the swimming medal table with 59 medals (36 gold, 15 silver, 8 bronze). Japan followed in second place with 63 medals (33 gold, 21 silver, 9 bronze), while Iran ranked third with 104 medals (23 gold, 39 silver, 42 bronze).
Thailand continued its strong showing with 50 medals (14 gold, 19 silver, 17 bronze), and Kazakhstan rounded out the top five with 34 medals (14 gold, 13 silver, 7 bronze).
Indonesia’s sixth-place finish and its swimmers’ remarkable achievements underscore the nation’s growing strength in para sports and raise hopes for even greater success in future international competitions.
